Conversation and prompt history
PATerminal keeps three kinds of history: past agent conversations you can resume anywhere, the prompts you sent in each session, and sessions you closed recently.
Written for PATerminal v1.8.3
Resume a past conversation
Click History in the toolbar to open Resume from history. It lists the Claude Code and Codex conversations saved on this computer — with a summary, folder, and the session they came from — and marks the ones still running.
- Find the conversation in the list.
- Press Open in new session. The destination is pre-filled with the conversation's folder; change it with Browse… if you like.
- Press Open. A new session starts in that folder and resumes the conversation.
For a conversation that's still running, Show takes you straight to its pane instead.
Opening a conversation that is still running in another pane starts a second process on the same conversation. PATerminal warns you before it does.
Prompt history
Prompt history shows everything you sent to claude / codex in a session, grouped by conversation — useful for finding the exact instruction that worked yesterday. Open it from the toolbar or from a session's right-click menu (Prompt history…).
- Pick a session on the left; Search prompts finds text across what you sent.
- Filter by agent, collapse conversations, and expand long prompts with Show full text.
- Copy a prompt, or Type into terminal to insert it again (Enter isn't sent).
- For a running conversation, jump to its pane.
Prompts are read from the agents' own transcript files on your computer. If a transcript was deleted or cleaned up, PATerminal tells you it's missing.
Recently deleted sessions
The Recently deleted tab in the History dialog keeps the last 20 sessions you closed, with their pane layout and terminal history. Press Restore to bring one back exactly as it was, or Clear all to empty the list.
